In the heart of Ferndell Avenue, a quiet, un-adopted road with an eclectic mix of homes, a remarkable transformation is taking shape. What was once an overgrown, unkempt property is now set to become a beacon of modern architectural finesse, carefully blended with the traditional charm of its neighborhood.

Our architects responded thoughtfully, ensuring that the lush greenery that characterizes the area would not be lost. Plans were set in motion to create a sedum roof on the garage, while small hedges and pot trees were meticulously placed for privacy and aesthetics. Along the eastern wall, an ingenious idea took root - espaliered trees to create a "green wall" effect, balancing the hard and soft landscaping in perfect harmony.

But it's not just about the landscaping; the architectural design itself reflects a harmonious blend of modernity and tradition. Large expanses of glazing give the property a modern touch, while careful selection of materials ensures it complements the neighboring properties. Ashlar style sandstone cladding for the garage pairs beautifully with warm light grey render on the front elevation. Dark grey architectural cladding adds a touch of premium sophistication to the composition.

The result is a home that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. It stands taller than its neighbors, but not disruptively so, thanks to its setback from the road. The revised roof design makes the structure appear visually lighter, ensuring it finds its place in the street scene effortlessly.

This project is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and consideration for the neighborhood's character. It proves that modern architecture can coexist harmoniously with traditional styles, provided it's executed with care and respect for the environment. The end result promises not only high-quality living spaces but also a significant enhancement to the entire streetscape.

Ferndell Avenue is a private road lined with gravel verges. The front boundaries of the houses are more open, although some are defined with walls and railings. There are also a number of garden trees, which add to the green character of the road. As such it has a slightly different and more spacious character to the rest of the area. The properties typology varies from mainly Semi detached to detached properties with few bungalows towards the end of the road. They vary in size and style and predominantly two story with few exceptions.
